Despite high expectations and positive critical reception, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, which debuted two days ago, appears to be experiencing a modest start on Steam.
The original Hellblade, released in 2017, garnered significant success and was considered one of the best games of its release year. The developer, Ninja Theory, was acquired by Microsoft in 2018, and Hellblade 2 was announced in December 2019, sparking high expectations among fans.

Just a fortnight before the game's release, fans appealed to Xbox for more marketing for Hellblade 2, because they noticed the promotional efforts for the sequel seemed underwhelming.
Despite these struggles, Hellblade 2 has received strong reviews, earning an 8/10 from IGN and an 81% rating from Metacritic. On Steam, the game has an impressive score of 88 based on nearly 13,000 reviews since its May 21 release.

However, the game's sales have not yet matched its critical reception. The first game, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, had been reportedly sold one million copies. In contrast, Hellblade 2's all-time peak of concurrent players on Steam until now is less than 4,000 according to data provided by SteamDB. It's worth noting, however, that the game is also available on Xbox consoles and Game Pass, and these figures don't reflect the complete picture.

Even with such a start, there's still hope for Hellblade 2 as it continues to reach potential players, particularly those who may not jump into a new game right at its launch.
