According to Arrowhead's CEO, he can't say when exactly this will be fixed.
After Helldivers 2 fans raised concerns over the game's PC size nearly doubling since its release – from 70 GB to over 130 GB – over the past few weeks, the developers have finally addressed the issue, with Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani issuing a brief statement that brings both good and bad news.

For reference, democracy fighters began highlighting the problem in mid-to-late August, pointing out not only that Helldivers 2's size had doubled since launch but also that the game's console version is only around 35 GB, meaning the PC version is currently nearly four times larger for no apparent reason.
Said reason, however, became more than apparent shortly after when Reddit user RaidingForPants discovered that the game duplicates many of its assets, to the point where the actual size of unique resources is only 30.39 GB – meaning 100 GB is taken up by duplicates. The user gave some examples to back up their claim, including the Normal Map for the Devastator body appearing 44 times in the game files and what RaidingForPants described as "the most egregious case for file size" – a 2K Normal Map for rocky environments duplicated 128 times, using a total of 2 GB of space.
Several weeks after those discoveries, CEO Shams Jorjani addressed them on Helldivers' official Discord server, delivering a concise statement that could be seen as either "glass half-full" or "glass half-empty," depending on your outlook.
On the positive side, Jorjani confirmed that the team has "escalated the priority" of the issue, confirming that they are at the very least aware of it. On the negative side, he admitted that he "can't tell" when the 131 GB debacle will actually be addressed, leaving it unclear how high Helldivers 2's PC size ranks on Arrowhead's list of priorities or whether a fix should be expected this week, sometime in September, later in 2025, or beyond.
So, what do you make of Jorjani's statement? Are you a "glass half-full" or "glass half-empty" person in this case? What are your thoughts on the increasing size of video games in general? Let us know in the comments!
