Hideki Kamiya Channel
In a recent interview with Denfaminico, Hideki Kamiya, the developer who worked on such titles as Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Okami, and Bayonetta, talked about why he left PlatinumGames, the creation of his new studio CLOVERS, and its artistic direction.
Kamiya explained that his vision of how the company should develop differed from that of the studio's CEO, Atsushi Inaba. They discussed it for about three months but couldn't reach a compromise.
After Kamiya left the studio, he didn't decide to start a new company right away and considered the possibility of working as a freelancer like Yoko Taro. The developer changed his mind when some of his former colleagues suggested working together. Thus, he and Kaneto Koyama founded a new studio named CLOVERS.
According to Kamiya, Clovers now has 20 members, but the plans include increasing the staff number to 70. The developer shared that he is not interested in large AAA titles and wants to focus on creating AA games. He underscores that the studio is financially independent and prefers project financing rather than investing in the company itself.
At The Game Awards, a sequel to the beloved Okami was announced. It is being created by Kamiya's new studio, CLOVERS, in collaboration with M-TWO and Machine Head Works. Hideki Kamiya will direct the production.
