Hideo Kojima Dispelled the Rumors About Abandoned and Blue Box

According to the game designer, he wouldn't do the same trick twice.

During the most recent episode of the Brain Structure podcast, Hideo Kojima and Geoff Keighley spoke about fake news, discussed where they usually come from, and dispelled some rumors about Kojima himself.

Speaking of the fake news in the gaming industry, Kojima recalled the rumor saying that he was involved in the creation of a horror game titled Abandoned which is said to be developed by Blue Box Studios. People created a conspiracy around the project finding some clues which point out the game's relation to Silent Hill and saying that Kojima was in charge of the project, while Blue Box Studio was just a shell company.

Previously, Hideo Kojima already did this move with Moby Dick, a shell company Kojima Productions created before the announcement of Metal Gear Solid 5. The studio first appeared at the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards where it revealed that it was working on a new game titled The Phantom Pain.

Following the release of the game's trailer, fans quickly spotted a number of clues suggesting that The Phantom Pain was actually a Metal Gear game. However, for several months, Kojima rejected his involvement in the development of this "Moby Dick's" project until the game was officially announced at GDC 2013 along with the reveal that Moby Dick Studio was a fictional creation of Kojima Productions made only to stir up fans' interest in Metal Gear Solid 5.

Some players suggested that the game designer might do the same thing with Blue Box and Abandoned. However, during the podcast, Kojima assured fans that he has absolutely nothing to do with Blue Box's project saying that he would never repeat the same trick he did with Moby Dick.

"When we did that Moby Dick thing, you [Geoff] were in on the whole thing, and that was pretty fun, but people should know that I wouldn’t do the same thing twice," Kojima said.

In addition, the game designer dispelled the rumor about the allegedly canceled development of Death Stranding 2 for Stadia. Kojima noted that it was rather surprising for him to watch it spread on social media and said that he doesn't even understand where it might come from as he didn't even discuss the possibility of such a project.

Now, it is also rumored that Kojima is working on a horror game supposedly titled "Overdose". However, the game designer didn't mention this rumor in the podcast.
