The developers of Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number have received some bad news: Sony removed their game from PlayStation in Australia.
You could play Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number on PlayStation 5 there for a whole year, but not anymore. Sony deleted the game from the platform and apologized for letting it reach the release.
Dennaton Games' franchise is famously brutal and bloody, and the game failed to receive the Australian Classification Board's rating due to themes of sexual violence. Despite that, it appeared on PlayStation in Australia.
A year later, Sony pulled Hotline Miami 2 from the store and sent emails along with refunds to those who bought the game.
"We have become aware that the product Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number has not received a proper rating from the Australian Classification Board and have therefore taken steps to refund customers who have purchased the game," the message says (thanks, Press-Start). "We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
And inconvenience it is, especially for the developers, who have lost money over the controversy. On the other hand, the drama might attract more players, curious about what the violent shooter can offer.
But for now, Sony has removed the game from the PlayStation Plus library. In response, its publisher Devolver Digital sent Eurogamer an image reading "Good times never last."
