Houdini Talk: Destruction Techniques Used For Borderlands 3

SideFX shared a great talk on the destruction techniques used for creating game-ready assets.

Caitlyn Trout, a technical artist at Gearbox Software, discussed problems that were experienced during the production of Borderlands 3 and talked about subnetworks and tools that were created to solve them. The artist covered generating simple consistent debris, translating complicated rigid body simulation into shader data, and more.

Caitlyn is now working as a technical artist at Gearbox Software. She started mastering technical art in school at the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy and then as an intern at EA Tiburon. She’s been working at Gearbox for the last 6 years on multiple AAA titles including Borderlands: the Presequel, Battleborn and Borderlands 3.
