How JetBrains Made Unreal Engine 5 Variable Inspections 87 Times Faster In Rider

The improvements are already available for you to test in the Early Access Program builds for Rider 2026.1.

If you're using Rider for Unreal Engine and curious about what happens behind the scenes, the team has just published a new blog post explaining how one of the developers reportedly improved native debugger performance by 87 times in an Unreal Engine project.

By rewriting the expression evaluator, JetBrains achieved dramatic results: Variable Inspection is now up to 87 times faster on warm runs and 16 times faster on cold runs, while debugger memory usage has dropped to just over a third of what it was.
