HoYoverse CEO Cried During His Speech at Genshin Fest 2024

"The only thing that cannot be changed for Genshin is the journey we'll experience with our travelers."

Liu Wei, better known as Da Wei, the CEO of HoYoverse, known for beloved Genshin Impact, cried during his emotional speech at Genshin Fest 2024. He talked to the fans about criticism and positive feedback after the 5.0 Natlan stream.

Da Wei shared that over the past few years, he and the Genshin team experienced a lot of anxiety and confusion as they went through hard times. He said that some feedback that the team received was "really, really sharp," and it caused the entire project team to feel "useless." Da Wei also said that some people called the project team "arrogant."

"At the start of this year, when the entire project team was feeling really lost, we decided to return to the place we started from." Da Wei recalled that back in 2019, the team also faced difficult times, and it was the positive feedback from the fans that helped the team continue until the present day. Da Wei shared that the team met with the Genshin fans worldwide, listening to many of their stories about their experience with the game, for instance, how they started playing Genshin during the pandemic. These tons of emotional stories gave the team "a great deal of encouragement."

"The only thing that cannot be changed for Genshin is the journey we'll experience with our travelers," Da Wei said. "It doesn't matter whether it's game content, in-game benefits, or game improvements. We think as long as travelers are happy, we can change anything," he continued, underscoring the significance of the fans' positive experience and feedback.

At the beginning of this year, Genshin Impact faced backlash from Chinese fans over the New Year rewards, and its social media lost almost a million followers. However, the game's mobile version managed to make $5 billion worldwide in just 40 months.

The 5.0 version of Genshin, featuring the region of Natlan, is reportedly scheduled for August 28, 2024.
