Hunt: Showdown 1896 Receives Its Largest Update But Gets Criticized
The game's biggest update features a new map, a wild target, a live event, and an updated UI. The latter, however, wasn't enjoyed by the players.
Hunt: Showdown 1896, a first-person hunting game developed by Crytek, gets its largest update ever. In the new release, the developers introduced a range of new game elements, including a map, a wild target, a live event, a UI with improved navigation, and more.
The new much-anticipated map, Mammon's Gulch, is a previously unseen biome set in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It brings the players to mountains, mines, and abandoned towns, offering new tactical gameplay options. The new wild target, Hellborn, associated with immense heat and dire, can be found at different locations, attracting other Hunters and multiplying the threat. Scorched Earth, the new live event, allows the players to gain new rewards. The update also features the integration of the new CryEngine 5.11, which improves the game's visuals and audio.

However, the players don't seem to enjoy the updated interface. As of writing, the recent reviews on Steam are labeled "Mostly Negative." The reviewers criticize the UI, which, according to some reviews, "made the game unplayable."
"I did enjoy the game quite a bit, and to the devs credit they did a wonderful job with this whole update! The sound, graphics, gunplay, even to small things like sight pictures is all great... minus the UI," shared one of the players on Steam. "Why is it all so BIG, the buttons make no sense too," "looks fancy but is a nightmare to navigate," read the reviews. "UI was clearly made for console and there's now more button presses than ever to get myself ready to play," as noted by one of the players.
A Reddit user, known under the name of Nob0dy-0, has spotted a developer's response to the negative feedback.
The developer states that they continue improving the UI, seeking to find a balance between simplicity and functionality.
