Also featuring MetaHuman facial animation import and timeline and Motion LIVE improvements.
Following the launch of Character Creator 5, the latest major upgrade to its flagship character creation tool, Reallusion has also released iClone 8.6, a smaller update to its real-time 3D animation and rendering software that introduces several features designed to enhance connectivity with CC5.
Key additions include the new Import MetaHuman Facial Animation function, support for CC5 HD characters and facial profiles, and compatibility with CC3+ Extended-Plus characters – all of which require Character Creator 5 to be installed.
In addition, the update introduces a new Digital Human_Occlusion (HD) shader that provides smoother blending between the eyeball and eye socket, creating a subtle fade to eliminate hard edges and prevent visible mesh intersections, along with a novel Digital Human_Tearline (HD) shader to match the updated model and UV layout. iClone users will also get a new subdivision level for already-subdivided CC5 characters, along with a Facial Parts Strength option in the context menu for quickly enhancing regional expressions.
Special mention goes to the new export presets added in version 8.6, including a preset for Marmoset Toolbag, a new Unreal Engine (UE5 Skeleton) preset – with the existing UE preset renamed to Unreal (UE4 Skeleton) – new Unreal Engine 5 (Mannequin) and UEFN options under Export FBX > Advanced Settings > Add Reference Pose, and a new Unreal Engine 5 Mannequin profile.
iClone 8.6 also features:
- New Dynamic Mipmap option in Real-time Render settings for reducing noise when using high-detail textures with General Wrinkles.
- Non-linear Curve support for characters that have corrective expressions in their facial profiles.
- Better compatibility with Character Creator 5.
- Eye Occlusion: Improved model design for a tighter fit around the eye socket.
- Tear Line: Adjusted model and UV layout for better specular highlighting.
- Bug fixes.
