India's Games Market Poised to Generate $868 Million in 2023 and $1.6 Billion by 2027

India has been strengthening its position as the fastest-growing video game market in Asia.

According to a recent report published by Niko Partners, India's video game market is experiencing rapid growth both in terms of gamers and revenue. Based on Niko Partners's research, revenue across all platforms is projected to reach $868 million in 2023, representing a 21.2% year-on-year increase. Furthermore, the market is forecasted to expand further, with revenue expected to reach $1.6 billion by 2027, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.2% over five years.

In line with revenue growth, the number of gamers in India is also on the rise. It is estimated that there will be 444 million gamers across all platforms in 2023, reflecting a 12.1% YoY growth. Looking ahead, this figure is projected to reach 641.2 million gamers by 2027, with a CAGR of 10.1% over five years. Notably, India is predominantly a mobile-first market, with 96.8% of gamers playing on smartphones or tablets.

In terms of consumer spending, approximately 31% of the 444.4 million gamers in 2023 are expected to spend on video games, with an annual average revenue per paying user (ARPPU) reaching $6.38. The return of popular games like Battlegrounds Mobile India and Free Fire bodes well for the industry and presents positive opportunities for foreign game companies looking to enter the Indian market.
