What's meant to be a blacksmith simulator ended up being praised for its quality as a 3D software.
From farming and construction to parking and street cleaning – no matter what you do for a living, chances are someone has already gamefied it and turned it into a simulator. Now, it seems that 3D modeling is next, with an upcoming title from Indie Game Developer known as grckaboy heavily resembling a simulator of a 3D modeling software.
Over the weekend, the developer showcased their WIP Unity-powered blacksmithing game, where instead of using a hammer and an anvil, players can shape and customize swords with basic modeling tools like Extrude and Chamfer.
While the showcase itself was largely meant to highlight frustrations with the sandbox system's bugs and ask the community if they would even want to play such a game, the response was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising grckaboy for developing what is essentially a fledgling version of "Blender the game" and advising the developer to expand on the blacksmithing aspect – as in, let the player actually strike the metal with a hammer, melt iron and steel, things of that nature – while keeping the demonstrated mechanic intact.
