Intel Unveils Its New Unlocked Core i9-12900KS Processor
The company claims the Core i9-12900KS to be "the world’s fastest desktop processor" with the peak speed reaching 5.5 GHz.
Intel has unveiled the Core i9-12900KS processor, an unlocked version of its Core i9-12900K chip. The 24-thread Core i9-12900KS is equipped with eight Performance-cores with a base frequency of 3.4 GHz and eight Efficiency-cores with a frequency of 2.5 to 4.0 GHz. According to the company, it is "the world’s fastest desktop processor" as its peak speed reaches 5.5 GHz on two cores.
Unlike its predecessor, the Core i9-12900KS can boast its boosted base power which increased from 125W to 150W allowing it to run unlocked. The flagship processor supports PCIe Gen 5.0 and 4.0 interfaces as well as DDR5 4800 MT/s and DDR4 3200 MT/s.
The Core i9-12900KS is equipped with an integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770 video chip, 14 MB L2 cache, and 30 MB L3 cache. The processor also supports Adaptive Boost technology to improve performance. The base level of power consumption amounts to 150W.
The company noted that the unlocked Core i9-12900KS processor is the "ultimate processor for enthusiasts and gamers" which provides "even more gaming power and performance".
The processor will go on sale on April 5 with a recommended customer price starting at $739, which is $150 more than the predecessor, Core i9-12900K. In comparison, the flagship Ryzen 7 5800X3D chip previously presented by AMD was priced at $449.
