A new fantasy RPG is being developed by IO Interactive, the company that created the well-known Hitman franchise. Additionally, confidential Microsoft documents indicate that it may be exclusive to Xbox and PC.
The information was obtained via emails and papers filed in the FTC trial, according to IGN, which also disclosed that Xbox will be working with IO Interactive. The future title is described as “Project Dragon”, and the description says that a new RPG Shooter will be launched exclusively on PC, Xbox Series X and S.
The game is listed alongside other IO Interactive titles, such as Project 007. Both games won't be launched until at least April 2025, according to a financial report from the company published in September 2022. Due to the "long production phases," IO Interactive even anticipates decreased earnings for 2023–2024 and 2024–2025, proving that both games appear to go through lengthy development cycles. However, the games' specifics are yet to be announced.
During the hearing, it was also revealed that IO Interactive was on Microsoft's list of companies to acquire in 2021. In June 2017, IO Interactive completed a management buyout from Square Enix Europe to become an independent studio and reclaimed the rights to its Hitman and Freedom Fighters brands.
