According to the latest report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple's upcoming iOS 18 software update might become one of the most ambitious updates in the history of the iPhone.
"I'm told that the new operating system is seen within the company as one of the biggest iOS updates – if not the biggest – in the company's history," wrote Gurman.
Gurman's recent report follows his previous claim that Apple was aiming for iOS 18 to be its most compelling update in years. While specifics weren't included in the latest report, Gurman previously mentioned Apple's plans for unveiling an enhanced version of Siri driven by a new AI system, as well as new features to improve auto-completion in both the Siri and Messages app and auto-generated playlists in Apple Music, akin to Spotify's offering.
The report also indicates that integrating generative AI into development tools such as Xcode is expected to simplify app development. Productivity apps like Pages and Keynotes may also see updates driven by generative AI. Additionally, iOS 18 is set to introduce RCS support.
The beta version of iOS 18 is set for a June 2024 release, following the WWDC developer conference, and the official launch is planned for September. Gurman has suggested that Apple soon reveal more information.
