Uncharted director Ruben Fleischer revealed he's working on another Naughty Dog adaptation.
Another of Sony's iconic franchises is going to get a film or TV adaptation. In an interview with Digital Trends, Ruben Fleischer, Uncharted director also known for Zombieland and Venom, has revealed he is working on Jak and Daxter film.
"I’m actually working on Jak and Daxter, a version of that, for PlayStation, which I think would be really cool to bring to life," said the director. Fleischer did not specify whether the adaptation will be an animation or a feature film as well as whether it'll be a full-length film or a TV series. We also don't know yet what stage the work is at as Sony hasn’t officially announced the project.
The news about Jak and Daxter adaptation comes shortly after Tom Holland who stars in another Naughty Dog adaptation – Uncharted – told that he desires to star in a film based on the Jak and Daxter franchise. In an interview with IGN, the actor shared: “I would like to make a Jak and Daxter movie, and I would play Jak”. He also added: “But I would make it at A24, so it was really weird and like dark. Yeah, I would do like a really weird, live-action version of Jak and Daxter.”
Jak and Daxter is an action-adventure game series developed by Naughty Dog that gained popularity at the time of PlayStation 2. The main characters – Jak, an elfish hero, and Daxter, half-weasel, half-otter – traveled to an unnamed planet in an attempt to uncover the secrets of the mysterious race that inhabited it in ancient times. The first game in the franchise was released in 2001, and the last one to date, The Lost Frontier, was launched in 2009.
In May 2021, Sony announced its plans to make 10 adaptations of its video game series for TV or film. The company hasn't revealed all of the titles, so Jak and Daxter probably might be one of them. The titles that were reported to have film or TV adaptations include Uncharted, the Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, and Twisted Metal.
