Japanese Manga & Game Company DLsite Launches Its Own Payment System After Visa and Mastercard Blocks

Pay for your favorite doujinshi with Minna no Ginko.

DLsite

Payment systems have become extremely active lately, especially when it comes to adult content. Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal have already influenced Steam and Itch.io, and the Japanese manga and game company DLsite is no exception.

As reported by Automaton, last year, it disabled Visa and Mastercard payments, leaving only domestic JCB, after trying to appease the systems by reworking some adult-themed terms, like "loli". Now, the fight is taking another turn: DLsite presented its own payment method on October 6, Minna no Ginko Payment, connected to the Japanese digital bank Minna no Ginko.

This new system allows for direct payments to DLsite by linking your Minna no Ginko bank account with a viviON account ID, one of DLsite's parent companies.

DLsite is offering discounts and rewards to tempt users, but if you're not from Japan, you won't be able to use the option, as Minna no Ginko doesn't let you create accounts from overseas.

As Automaton noted, art commission platform Skeb introduced its own cryptocurrency back in 2022 in a similar move, so perhaps we are on the verge of a new digital era where we won't be dependent on Visa and Mastercard.
