Japanese 19th-Century Artwork Brought to Life Through Stunning 2D Animation
Bo Cao crafted the setup using Toon Boom Harmony.
2D FX Artist, Designer, and Instructor Bo Cao brought to life a renowned 19th-century artwork, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, crafted by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai, by creating this fantastic animation. The setup was hand-drawn frame by frame in Toon Boom Harmony.
Bo Cao expanded the scene of the woodblock by creating the stormy sea, staying true to Hokusai's original style. The artist shared that this project was the most ambitious and emotional project that took one and a half years. As shared by the creator, one of the most time-consuming parts was recreating tidal waves.
