Joel Actor Troy Baker to Star in Naughty Dog's New Game

“In a heartbeat I would always work with Troy.”

Troy Baker has been the voice behind many beloved characters from Naughty Dog’s popular titles, including Joel in The Last of Us series and Sam Drake in Uncharted 4. Now, it’s reported that he will team up with Naughty Dog's boss again in a new game that the studio is working on.

The new issue of GQ Magazine has affirmed the news, citing Neil Druckmann’s comment with the cooperation of this voice actor: “In a heartbeat I would always work with Troy.” Druckmann recognized Baker as “a demanding actor” who was careful with every detail.  “Troy’s trying to stretch the limits of what this thing is and often he succeeds at making it better than it was in my imagination,” Druckmann adds.

Baker's performance was not only appraised by Druckmann; he also holds the record for most acting nominations at the BAFTA Games Awards, with five nominations secured between 2013 and 2021.

It’s unclear which new project Baker has been involved in; it could be one of the "multiple single-player projects" Naughty Dog is working on in an effort to shake off the label of “The Last of Us’ studio.”

Besides this new role in Naughty Dog’s new title, Troy Baker will also star Higgs Monaghan in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, which is scheduled for 2025. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which will be coming next month, will have him starring Harrison Ford.

When it comes to using AI in video game voice acting, unlike many other colleagues in the industry, Troy Baker remains open to working with this technology. He believes that it has advanced to the point where it cannot be ignored.
