Kamiya & Mikami: Reflecting on the Past and Envisioning the Future

The two former colleagues, Hideki Kamiya and Shinji Mikami, are preparing to engage in a discussion about their respective career journeys and upcoming plans.

In December, the Archipel team will be hosting its first pop culture festival, which will take place in Tokyo from December 15 to 17, and it will feature two esteemed game creators, Hideki Kamiya and Shinji Mikami. Archipel, well-known for its YouTube channel specializing in high-quality documentaries about Japanese artists, has previously featured extensive interviews with Mikami and other game designers, enhancing the anticipation for this upcoming session.

Shinji Mikami and Hideki Kamiya, both of whom retired from their previous positions in 2023, will be participating in a session titled "Shinji Mikami x Hideki Kamiya". During this session, they will delve into discussions about their respective pasts, futures, and unique perspectives on the creative process. As for now, it remains uncertain whether this conversation will be broadcast or recorded for later viewing.

"In this conversation, the two, who retired from their previous jobs in 2023, will begin by sharing their memories of their respective careers, as well as their creative thinking and future plans," the event description provided by Archipel Caravan states.

Kamiya announced his departure from Platinum in September, marking the end of his 15-year tenure at the company he co-founded. During his time at Platinum, he played a pivotal role in creating some of the studio's most iconic games, including Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101. In a video released recently, Kamiya clarified that he has no plans to retire from the game development industry.

Meanwhile, it was officially confirmed in February that Mikami would be departing Tango Gameworks, the studio he established in 2010 and which produced notable titles such as The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush before it was acquired by Bethesda. Mikami is widely recognized for his remarkable contributions during his time at Capcom, where he directed the original Resident Evil, its 2002 GameCube remake, and the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4, in addition to several other notable titles.
