KeenTools Releases GeoTracker For Houdini In Open Beta
Introducing a fully integrated matchmove tool for geometry-based object and camera tracking.
KeenTools, the developer behind various plug-ins for VFX and 3D artists, has brought its geometry-based object and camera tracking solution, GeoTracker, to Houdini as a native SOP node.
The tool enables users to handle matchmoving directly within Houdini, with full support for both OBJ and Solaris workflows. It streamlines production by allowing the extraction of animation from 2D footage inside the same scene and converting tracked geometry into colliders or emitters for simulations, so there's no need to switch between applications.
GeoTracker is already available in Nuke, After Effects, and Blender. To help users get started, KeenTools has released a comprehensive set of learning resources, including a 3-hour masterclass by David Torno:
Highlights include:
- Geometry-based tracking: Animate 3D models by matching the motion of real-world objects in 2D footage;
- Camera tracking: Recover camera motion by aligning static objects or environment models (like LiDAR);
- 3D layout: Precisely align 3D scenes to live-action footage using tracked geometry;
- Focal length estimation: Automatic calculation of lens parameters when camera data is unknown;
- Zoom shot tracking: Automated tracking of shots with changing focal lengths.
GeoTracker for Houdini is currently free to use during its open beta phase, and you can download it here. Please make sure you're using Houdini 20.5 or newer. KeenTools will continue rolling out regular updates until the stable version is released.
