Learn Modern UE5 Techniques with Remastered Particle Cave Level

Particle Cave Remastered is a recreation of a sample 10-year-old Particle Effects sample level with novel Unreal Engine 5 tools.

If you wish to improve your skills and practice in Unreal Engine, take a look at Particle Cave Remastered by Thomas Harle, also known as tharlevfx.

The sample Unreal Engine Particle Effects level was made ten years ago to demonstrate a new technology at the time: GPU Particles. Since then, the software has seen many new updates with multiple cutting-edge technologies. The project is a recreation of the level in Unreal Engine 5.4 with modern VFX techniques, such as Niagara, Blueprints, Nanite, and Lumen.

The level is complex and features a waterfall, fire, magical elements, and complex lighting, and you can practice your skills thoroughly while working on them. The original level was created with static meshes and Cascade Particles, while the remaster features Nanites and Niagara instead, along with Lumen lighting. Megascan models are also used in the project. The new original feature of the remaster is adding landscape to the level, which the sample level didn't have. Adding landscape allows for the utilization and practice of the new Nanite Tesselation.

The remaster is done in collaboration with Will Brosch, an experienced Environment Artist, previously an Art Lead and University Educator, who will work on the environment while Thomas Harle does VFX and tech art support. The creator shared a series of six YouTube videos showing the process of working on the project:
