Let Your Unreal Engine Trees Move with This Wind System

Justin Davis adds more to his Interactive Foliage Physics plug-in.

Watching grass move in games might be therapeutic, but trees deserve some love as well. "Hot take: trees should have wind as a bare minimum in indie games," said Justin Davis and presented a wind system that should make environments more realistic without much effort.

The system will appear in an update to Davis's Etherion Foliage plug-in, which already provides a useful set of tools to make 3D scenes alive.

The features include:

  • Physics interaction
  • Weapon interaction
  • Performant explosions
  • Destruction events
  • Harvesting
  • Ambient particles
  • Animation effects

The plug-in is perfect for survival games, fantasy settings, and animations. With the new wind system, it will become even more robust.
