LILA Games, the creator of Project Black, an extraction shooter for mobile platforms, is looking for professionals in the sphere of 3D art and game development. Currently, the studio has open positions for Art Director and Technical Artist for the work on their Unity-powered project with stylized graphics.
Art Director
You'll lead the visual direction of the studio's games, aiming for a consistent and compelling art style, collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing the pipeline, guiding art team, and mentoring artists. You need to have skills in environment and character art and know how to utilize tools such as Maya, Blender, and Unity. The work is full-time and remote.
Key Responsibilities:
Define and Maintain Visual Direction:
- Define the overall narrative, visual identity, art style, and aesthetic direction.
- Ensure consistency and coherence in the game’s visual elements (characters, environments, lighting) that align with gameplay and narrative goals.
- Lead decisions on character designs, environments, lighting, and map themes, ensuring that key artistic choices are aligned with both gameplay and business objectives.
Gameplay Driven Art
- Collaborate closely with game designers to align art direction with gameplay goals, ensuring environments, characters, and UI elements contribute to a seamless player experience.
- Provide art solutions that balance aesthetics with functionality, preventing visual clutter and enhancing navigational cues across the game.
- Establish clear artistic constraints across the art pipeline that support the above 2 points
Oversee Art Production Pipelines:
- Define concept requirements and oversee the translation of concepts into final assets.
- Ensure efficient and scalable art pipelines, collaborating with technical leads to integrate art assets into the production workflow smoothly.
- Ensure the art team is well-integrated within the broader development team, optimizing collaboration across all disciplines to meet project goals.
- Work closely with Design, Engineering, and Level Design teams to ensure artistic elements are optimized for gameplay performance and technical constraints.
Quality Bar:
- Maintain high standards of visual quality across all game assets, from characters to environments and UI elements.
Mentor and Guide the Art Team:
- Provide ongoing feedback to artists, guiding them in their processes and technical execution to improve their skills and enhance the quality of their work.
- Foster an environment of continuous learning, supporting younger artists and driving the team towards creative excellence.
Requirements:
Experience:
- A minimum of 8+ years of experience as an art director, senior concept artist, or lead artist on AAA console/PC projects (mobile game experience is a huge plus)
- Ability to hold the vision of the game across multiple elements like Environment art, Characters, VFX, UI, Animation styles and Marketing art.
- Strong understanding of game engines (Unreal/Unity), and proficiency with industry-standard creative tools (Maya, Photoshop, Substance, etc.).
- Experience guiding concept artists to create visuals that enhance player experience and readability.
- Strong collaboration skills to work closely with game designers, ensuring art direction aligns with mechanics and level design.
- Experience in creating or overseeing concept art for games, with a focus on functional, gameplay-driven design.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of visual storytelling, color theory, lighting, and composition.
- Strong understanding of game design principles and how art impacts gameplay.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to provide clear feedback and inspire creativity across teams.
- Experience managing art production pipelines and delivery of high-quality assets.
Portfolio:
- A portfolio showcasing your artistic vision, leadership ability, and experience in maintaining consistency and quality across large-scale projects.
Nice to Have:
- Experience working on shooter or extraction games.
- Technical understanding of optimizing game art for mobile performance.
- Work closely with Design, Engineering, and Level Design teams to ensure artistic elements are optimized for gameplay performance and technical constraints.

Technical Artist (Contract)
The opining is also global, which allows for remote work. At this position, you will work on the games' visuals while maintaining optimal performance, working closely with the art and engineering teams. For this work, you will need to be skilled in Unity.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement tools, scripts, and workflows to improve the efficiency and quality of art production.
- Build tools and scripts for artists in Game Engine (Unity), Modeling Software (Maya, Blender, ZBrush), and Substance to improve art production efficiency and quality.
- Create shaders and special effects to enhance the visual quality of our games. This includes VFX and shaders for weapon skins, character cosmetics, and UI elements.
- Write Unity code to integrate shaders and special effects, ensuring they are easily configurable by artists, engineers, or designers.
- Work with the art director to optimize and elevate all visual aspects of the game, including textures, shadows, foliage, lighting, and shaders.
- Optimize all art assets for performance on mobile devices.
- Create shaders and special effects to enhance the visual quality of our games.
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of writing tools in Unity, Maya, and Blender.
- Strong knowledge in building shaders and VFX in and for Unity using Shader Graph.
- Good understanding of the technical implementation of customizable systems like character customization and weapon skins.
- Experience in a full digital art content creation pipeline (high and low-poly modeling, unwrapping, baking, texturing, level art).
- Experience in at least 3 mobile game titles as a Tech Artist
- Ability to optimize art in engine, optimize art pipeline, and create tools to automate manual processes
- Nice to have: Knowledge of HLSL
