Long-Lost Star Wars Game Made Playable By Dedicated Fans
Watch over an hour of Call of Duty-style action unfold on Tatooine.
This feels like ancient history, and in many ways, it is. Star Wars: First Assault was one of several video games canceled by Disney back in 2012, a decision that many fans are still upset about. In 2015, footage of the game leaked online, showing about 20 minutes of the beta, which featured only one level, but revealed just how close it was to completion.
Well, apparently, now, Star Wars: First Assault has been developed into a proper release thanks to a team of Battlefront modders, who rebuilt it from the closed technical beta and powered it with Unreal Engine 5. A preliminary test was held on March 6 to ensure everything functioned properly. The game was made available for download about an hour beforehand. After that, the team planned to run 8v8 gameplay to stress-test servers and identify any bugs that hadn't been discovered during internal testing.

You can watch over an hour of gameplay in the clip above, and although it may not look that impressive all these years later, it's still a fascinating piece of lost gaming history. How long it will stay available is unclear, but for now, you can join the project's official Discord server.
