Lords of the Fallen Release Drops Publisher Shares 18%

The reboot didn't impress players.

Lords of the Fallen was released on October 13, and its first reviews significantly dunked the publisher's shares.

As reported by Reuters, CI Games' shares dropped 18% on Friday, its lowest in the last six months.

Lords of the Fallen is a reboot of the 2014 action RPG, which was announced last year. Apparently, the vast world, the ability to customize your character and playstyle, and hundreds of brutal weapons couldn't capture players' attention the way CI Games and developer HEXWORKS expected. The game received lukewarm reviews and the PC version now has a Metascore of 76 and a User Score of 7.2 on Metacritic, while on PS5 it got 73 and 7.2.

Steam users gave the Soulslike Mixed reviews, reporting performance issues, problems with multiplayer, and tedious gameplay. On the other hand, there are plenty of fans who say it's a fun experience that will remind you of old FromSoftware titles.

Erste Group analyst Piotr Bogusz thinks that the relatively low rating and optimization issues might prevent CI Games from selling as many units as it expects.

"The game's total budget (production and marketing) is around 200 million zlotys ($46.9 million), and according to our estimates, the company should sell 1.4-1.5 million copies, which, with ratings at that level, could be quite ambitious"

Additionally, you couldn't play Lords of the Fallen on Xbox on the launch day as the team was working on an update that would "bring it up to parity with the other platforms." This might also impact players' impressions and the game's sales.
