An artist named Lonelyspeck has found out that it's actually possible to make 3D sound with physical simulation in Blender by simply animating objects emitting sounds to achieve a real-time stereo image with the Doppler effect. In this demo, each red speaker is playing the same C tone, pitched only by movement relative to the camera.
This is a very basic Blender function that has been around for a long time. The users on X/Twitter immediately started experimenting, and while it doesn't seem to be able to simulate audio beats or percussion and this idea could be easily taken a lot further in game engines, it is still impressive with its simplicity and potential.
In the demo video, there's ambient music played as an example Brian Eno would've loved, but you can load any sound file to make your own audio-visual experience. This sounds just as easy as it is: you can make your own version by adding a Speaker object from the Add menu and loading the sound file of your choice in its properties.
