Mario + Rabbids Director Davide Soliani Leaves Ubisoft for "a New Adventure"

After a tenure of a quarter of a century.

Davide Soliani, a key figure behind the successful Mario + Rabbids series of games, took to X/Twitter to announce his departure from Ubisoft after 25 years of tenure, and he will "embark on a new adventure."

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a well-received turn-based action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft for the Nintendo Switch, is a crossover between Nintendo's Mario and Ubisoft's Rabbids franchises. In 2021, Ubisoft stated that around 7.5 million players had played the game.

Soliani joined Ubisoft in 1997 as a game designer and was appointed as the creative director at Ubisoft Milan in 2013, where he worked on the Mario + Rabbids franchise for 11 years.

Interestingly, the picture in Soliani's farewell post presents a memorable moment at E3 2017. The photo captures his tearful reaction to the praise he received, a moment that quickly went viral and became an internet meme.
