CLO Virtual Fashion rolled out the first update of the year for their flagship 3D clothing design software, featuring a refreshed UI, new keyframe animation features for avatars, IK joint mapping tools, experimental fur support, a Modular Library for garments, and more.
Although Marvelous Designer previously had keyframe animation capabilities, the 2025 version expands on these with many new keyframeable attributes, such as wind and fabric properties, and offers better navigation. You can now edit the avatar's joints for dynamic animations or control wind properties to create effects with changing wind values over time.
Also, Marvelous Designer 2025 makes IK joint mapping easier for different avatars, ensuring smooth and natural movement while keeping motions and poses compatible across all avatars.
To do this, the avatar needs properly defined joints, with key points like the shoulders, elbows, wrists, pelvis, knees, and ankles included in the rigging. It's now possible to seamlessly import and use rigged characters from Daz 3D, Mixamo, Character Creator, and MetaHuman.
This release also introduces support for fur in beta, allowing you to visualize fur materials and adjust their parameters and shape. Different fur styles can be previewed in real-time, and you can export them as splines.
For existing workflows, there are now options to generate UVs not only for the front but also for the sides and back of a garment. Additionally, quad mesh results have been significantly improved, reducing triangles and enhancing the creation of smoother edge flow.
Marvelous Designer 2025 introduces a new Modular Library, allowing you to create different variations of your own assets using previously saved garment groups and block sets. Additionally, by linking CONNECT, CLO-SET, and Marvelous Designer in one place, you can now navigate both default and store assets more easily.
