The partnership will combine Mastercard's technology, network-level expertise, global scale, and trusted connections with Xsolla's platform.
Mastercard and global video game commerce company Xsolla announced their plans to collaborate on "frictionless, secure, and rewarding payments for gamers". The partnership will combine Mastercard's technology, global scale, network-level expertise, and trusted connections with Xsolla's platform "to create customizable and more accessible payment experiences for players, developers, and creators."
The deal should bring enhanced checkout experiences, simple in-game currency gifting, improved creator payout processes, and more.
The companies will work together to create innovative card and account-based solutions and services to make buying in-game currency and objects from game shops simpler.
Mastercard cardholders will be able to use a new system called Pay with Points to make purchases without leaving the platform. Players will get the opportunity to send in-game currency to friends as a gift.
Redeeming loyalty points from Mastercard’s partners will be available later this year. If you'd like to know more, read the announcement here and check out the Pay with Points solution at GDC on March 21-24.
