Maya 2020 Launched
The latest update comes with full USD integration and more.
Autodesk revealed new versions of Maya, 3ds Max, and MotionBuilder today. One of the biggest things is USD plugin for Maya. It is a joint effort with Pixar, Animal Logic, Luma Pictures, and Blue Sky Studios, allowing artists to load and edit massive datasets at a great speed. Maya’s animation, modeling, and rendering toolsets have also been updated.
First, there's full USD integration to load multiple gigabytes of data within seconds and work directly with the data using Maya’s native tools. As for animation tools, the team states that new updates help artists animate faster and in fewer clicks. The new version introduces a new Ghosting Editor to quickly see animation spacing over time, making it easier to pinpoint necessary edits and how poses work together in animations.
The update also introduces several procedural, topology-independent rigging workflows. Component Tags and Deformer Falloffs are said to provide modern methods for defining membership and weighting, plus seamlessly share that data between geometry and deformers.
