Maze Runner's Director Will Bring Cyberpunk Shooter Ruiner to Screens

The development team includes other renowned professionals.

Universal Pictures acquired the rights to make a cinematic adaptation of Ruiner, a cyberpunk action shooter. The developer, Reikon Games, will also participate in the production.

Wes Ball, best known for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the Maze Runner trilogy, will take the director's chair. Michael Arlen Ross will write a screenplay, while 87North, Story Kitchen, and Oddball will produce the entire movie.

Ruiner, the 2017 game from Polish developers, is set in a 2091 cyber metropolis and follows the story of a wired psychopath who sets upon a corrupt system aiming to save his kidnapped brother with the help of a mysterious hacker friend. The game features sophisticated and brutal combat, story-driven action, and a vibrant soundtrack, contributing to the gloomy atmosphere of a neon-lit urban environment. Ruiner is loved by the audience, with 89% positive reviews of more than 9,000 on Steam.

Johnson and Mike Goldberg, known for Tomb Raider and Sonic the Hedgehog, will also produce the movie, with Timothy I. Stevenson and Dan Jevons as executive producers. Wes Ball and Joe Hartwick Jr. will be represented by Oddball. The game developer company Reikon's team includes Marek Roefler, Magdalena Tomkowicz, and Jakub Stylinski who will be executive producers.

Universal Pictures has already produced game adaptations, for example, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Wes Ball is also not unfamiliar with games' adaptations, as he is the Director of The Legend of Zelda cinematic version.
