The developer will stop releasing updates for the game after September 1, 2023.
Media Molecule has announced that it will discontinue support for its game creation system video game Dreams.
According to an announcement on the official Dreams website, the game's developers will cease all updates and events like DreamsCom, All Hallows’ Dreams, and the Impy Awards after September 1, 2023.
"We know this won't be an easy message for everyone to hear, and it's certainly not been an easy decision – Dreams has been a special project for Media Molecule and helping this burgeoning community of game developers, tinkerers, creatives, collaborators and dreamers grow and express themselves remains one of the best things we've ever done," the developer wrote. "Thank you for being part of it with us – we look forward to you joining us on our next adventure."
Media Molecule clarified that following the discontinuation of support, players will still have access to the game creation system and will be able to upload their own work and download levels created by others. However, there will be no more updates for the game beyond this date.
Additionally, the developer revealed that starting at the end of May 2023, Dreams will be migrated to a new server and each player's storage limit will be reduced to 5 GB for new works published after the migration. This change will not affect previously published works.
Media Molecule has assured players and creators that Dreams will remain available for purchase after September 1, and will not be removed from sale.
The developer also revealed that it is currently developing a new project, although it has not yet disclosed any details. However, it clarified that this new project is neither a sequel to Dreams nor is built on the Dreams IP.
