Dark Horse Comics' new division is going to work on bringing famous superheroes to life in the form of video game characters.
As the company states, DH Games' mission is "to bring joy and entertainment through Dark Horse Comics’ portfolio of over 425 story-driven, diverse and unique worlds and characters, by bringing them to games."
Dark Horse Games lists Hellboy, Frank Miller’s Sin City and 300, Umbrella Academy, Polar, Lady Killer, Emily the Strange, Usagi Yojimbo, and Resident Alien as their most popular creations, so these might be the first ones to turn into video game plots.
The main offices of the new division are based in Oregon and Shanghai, and Dark Horse Games are planning to cooperate with developers outside of the company to create the new games. As DH Games reveal in the statement on their website, "DHG is in active discussions with the world’s top gaming companies to develop games with our IPs to be released over the next several years and across all platforms (mobile, PC, console, and cloud)."
Johnny B. Lee is the General Manager of the newly formed Dark Horse Games division. Before Dark Horse Games, he led business development and commercial strategy at Improbable. Johnny also founded DGTL, a digital marketing and communication consultancy.
"We have evergreen properties, like Hellboy, where there will always be interest in making games and doing collaborations,” said Johnny B. Lee. “We and our partners can really evaluate if a story IP and character universe would be a good fit for games that they’re internally designing and developing.”
He also shared that Dark Horse is currently in 'late-stage discussions' with multiple different AAA game developers and the first games might be released "no later than the end of Q1 next year."
