Mesmerizing Time-Lapse 3D Modeling Animation Made in Maya

Some more blend shapes magic from Cauldron 3D.

Cauldron 3D, a brilliant 3D Modeler and Animator who just recently showcased a neat 3D recreation of a famous Akira poster, continues their series of mesmerizing time-lapse-style animations with a new piece that can steal your full attention for more than one rewatch.

This time, the creator demonstrated the production process behind a shuriken, demonstrating the iconic weapon turning from a few triangles to a fully-fledged 3D model. As always, Cauldron utilized Autodesk Maya and Blend Shape, the software's function that lets you change the shape of one object into the shapes of other objects, deforming its surface into the shapes of different surfaces, to set up the asset.

Previously, the creator also showcased similar-looking demos for their 3D takes on Evangelion Unit-00 Prototype, Robot Trooper from Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky, and Howl's Moving Castle from Studio Ghibli's eponymous animated movie:

You can check out more amazing time-lapses by visiting the author's Twitter page. We also highly recommend visiting Cauldron 3D's YouTube channel for in-depth workflow showcases and tutorials.
