Metacritic Reveals the 10 Worst-Rated Games of 2022

Here is the list that no game developer would like to make it onto.

2022 is inevitably coming to an end and everyone is starting to recap the highlights of the passing year. Metacritic, however, decided to wrap up and summarize this year by recalling its lowlights – on Tuesday, the aggregation website published a list of the absolute worst-rated games of 2022.

The list was made according to a weighted average of review scores from Metacritic's list of approved critics and includes the lowest-scoring games released for any platform between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. The website also noted that games that have fewer than seven reviews from professional critics are excluded from the list.

Here is the full list of the top ten worst-rated games of the year, according to Metacritic:

  1. Postal 4: No Regerts (PC) - 30
  2. CrossfireX (Xbox Series X) - 38
  3. Babylon's Fall (PS5) - 41
  4. XEL (Switch) - 43
  5. Arc of Alchemist (Switch) - 46
  6. Zorro: The Chronicles (Xbox Series X) - 50
  7. The Last Oricru (Xbox Series X) - 50
  8. The Waylanders (PC) - 51
  9. Kamiwaza: Way of the Thief (PS4) - 52
  10. Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition (Switch) - 52

The third place on the list is taken by a new IP from Bayonetta developer PlatinumGames – Babylon's Fall. The online ARPG was released in March 2022 and had a terrible launch showing one of the worst (if not the worst) performances for a project focused on a multiplayer game.

Its audience was decreasing with each month, and in May, the game's player count on PC even dropped to zero at one point, however, at the time, the developers said that they would continue working on the game and creating new content. Still, Babylon's Fall performance was far too disappointing so a few months later, PlatinumGames announced that it would be shutting down the game.

First-person shooter from Remedy and Smilegate CrossfireX takes an "honorary" second petition. The game was criticized for its visuals and glitchy framerates as well as a number of other issues including almost everything – from bad script to poorly crafted AI and inconvenient controls. Yet, CrossfireX is still being updated with new content and there is no news that the devs are planning to terminate the game's service.

Topping the list is Running with Scissors' Postal 4: No Regerts. The game is simply described as a "genuinely awful experience" with players and writers criticizing it for its performance problems, very basic gameplay, and too lame jokes.
