Microsoft Is Allegedly Helping AMD Expand into AI Processors

We could see an NVIDIA rival in AI soon.

Microsoft is reportedly working with AMD on expansion into the chipmaker’s AI processors. According to Bloomberg, Microsoft is providing engineering resources to support AMD's developments as they try to compete with NVIDIA, which dominates the AI chips market.

It was also said AMD is helping Microsoft with its own AI chip Athena, but Microsoft spokesperson Frank Shaw denied the rumors.

The two companies working together on AI components is not surprising. With the recent rise of AI, Microsoft has been trying to secure its place in the field by, for example, investing in OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The company is interested in an alternative to NVIDIA's processors needed for power-costly AI services in its Azure Cloud.
