Microsoft Reportedly Offered Sony to Add Call of Duty to PS Plus

The offer was a part of the deal that would keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for the next 10 years, Bloomberg reports.

In early December, following reports that Microsoft might make some concessions to global regulators to help its Activision deal to go through, the company confirmed that it offered Sony a 10-year deal that would "make each new 'Call of Duty' release available on PlayStation the same day it comes to Xbox."

However, as a recent report by Bloomberg claims, the ability to keep the shooter series as standalone retail titles for PlayStation for a decade was not the only concession Microsoft made. According to the news agency's sources, Microsoft also offered Sony the option to add Call of Duty to its PlayStation Plus subscription service as an addition to the 10-year licensing deal.

Microsoft’s Game Pass has significantly altered the video game industry over the last few years and a number of people assumed that adding the Call of Duty franchise to Xbox’s subscription service could give Microsoft a competitive advantage over its rival, Sony, which supposedly was one of the main reasons why the tech giant decided to purchase Activision in the first place. However, apparently, if the report is to be believed, Microsoft is pursuing different goals.

Since Microsoft announced its decision to acquire the Call of Duty publisher, it has been facing some serious hurdles. The deal is being investigated by multiple regulators around the world, including the European Commission, the UK's Competition and Markets Authority, and the US Federal Trade Commission.

The latter has recently filed a lawsuit against Microsoft in an attempt to block it from acquiring Activision Blizzard which adds significantly more difficulties to the tech giant's fights against concerns raised by European authorities.
