If you're a digital painter, you might have had problems with software not mixing colors naturally. Mixbox is here to help with this. Created by Secret Weapons, the developers of EbSynth, it is a practical library for paint-like color mixing.
"Mixbox treats colors as real-life pigments using the Kubelka & Munk theory to predict realistic color behavior. That way, colors act like actual paints and bring more vibrance and intuition into digital painting."
It means yellow and blue produce green as they should – something not every app is capable of doing. The tool "hides all the physics inside an RGB-in RGB-out box, making it easy to implement into any painting software," told us Secret Weapons' co-founder Šárka Sochorová last year.
As mentioned above, the company is more known for its EbSynth tool that can bring images to life, no matter if they are traditional paintings or simple videos. If you're interested in how it works, be sure to read our interview with Sochorová.
Mixbox is a method that can be used in various programs. It is already part of the Rebelle painting tool and the Flip Fluids add-on for Blender.
