Following the mind-boggling success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a record-breaking film adaptation based on the Mario franchise, which recently became the highest-grossing movie of 2023, surpassing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and bringing its creators $876 million, many Nintendo fans began to speculate about the possibility of future adaptations of the company's game franchises and what games might get a cinematic rendition first.
While the second question remains unanswered, the first one has recently been answered by Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto himself, who reaffirmed the studio's intention to produce more movies and animations in the future. Speaking to Japanese news outlet Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Miyamoto stated that there is "no doubt" that more movies and animations based on the developer's IPs will hit the screens further down the line.
Unfortunately, the developer didn't comment on which particular games will get adapted first, leaving fans to wonder whether it will be a sequel to the Mario movie, a new film set in the Pokémon universe, or something brand-new, such as an adaptation of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda.
