French publisher Nacon has acquired the developer of Edge of Eternity Midgar Studio. Both Nacon’s community manager and Midgar Studio’s CEO shared the news on Twitter, however, no additional information on the future of Edge of Eternity along with financial details were revealed.
Midgar Studio was founded in 2008 by Jérémy Zeler-Maury who is currently holding the position of the company's CEO. The studio initially specialized in outsourcing resources to other studios but later evolved into an independent creative business that focuses on JRPG titles. In 2018, the studio collaborated with indie developer Fusty Game on the 2018 adventure game Hover and also released Edge of Eternity in 2021.
Nacon is best known for publishing racing, sports, and simulation video games along with co-publishing an RPG Warhammer: Chaosbane. The company includes 15 development studios worldwide, 10 of them being located in France. Nacon's intention to purchase Midgar Studio was explained as adding "new expertise to its portfolio," and exploring new markets.
Edge of Eternity
"Midgar Studio makes high-quality games in a segment that we have not yet specialized in," shared Nacon president and CEO Alain Falc, "By combining the studio's expertise with our own on the publishing side, we will soon be able to offer our players new, high-quality, French-made gaming experiences".
Zeler-Maury also added: "Being creative and technically excellent at the same time is a challenge that is characteristic of Midgar Studio and our trademark. We are very happy to be joining NACON, who listen and understand what we are trying to achieve. With their support, we have the chance to fulfill our ambitions while retaining a lot of freedom."
