New DALL-E 2 Integration Brings Generative AI to Slide Design

A tool for creating intuitive slide design Tome announced a new integration with DALL-E 2 which will add AI-powered interactive slide options to the service.

Tome, a creation tool for intuitive slide design, has got a new integration with DALL-E 2, an AI system that can create realistic images from a text description.

The company describes Tome as a tool that allows creators to "tell powerful stories with generative art for the very first time." It also notes that it helps users bring their ideas to life and tell a compelling story with the help of Tome's range of functionality and intuitive design. According to the company, using the tool, creators can easily create designs for a number of use cases including preparing design portfolios for interviews, educating customers about new products, articulating the brand vision, or building microsites.

In March 2022, the company raised $32.3M in funding in an effort to create a tool that would be a modernized version of the old-school PowerPoint that, unlike Microsoft's presentation program, would make the user experience easier and feel more like Instagram. At the time, Tome co-founders Keith Peiris and Henri Liriani, former Instagram and Facebook product leads, noted that their aim was to create a "new format for storytelling that better aligns with how we work today."

Tome believes that the new integration with DALL-E 2 "adds a new dimension to visual storytelling in Tome." Thanks to the integration, users can now simply describe an image and the art generator will bring their ideas to life.

In an interview with VentureBeat, Tome CEO Keith Peiris shared that adding the DALL-E 2 integration "felt really natural" for the company. He explained that the option to make generative AI slides felt "much more powerful" than just looking for a stock photo or clip art.

"One of the powerful things about DALL-E is that it’s really precise – we’ve found that for most of our users, within a couple of tries they can get something that helps land their point," Peiris said.

According to the head of the company, the new DALL-E 2 integration is just the beginning of adding a generative AI dimension to Tome. Currently, the company is working with GPT-3 and the next feature it plans to implement in the coming weeks will be text summarization.
