New Frontiers Update for Dota 2 Expands Map by 40%

Dota 2 receives a massive update called New Frontiers, which brings a new map, major gameplay and matchmaking changes, and much more.

The Dota map has been expanded by 40%, it has more terrain, but the core objective and lanes remain the same. Both main jungles have been fully reconfigured, shaking up vision placement, juke routes, farming and more.

The corners of the map are now connected by two gates near the safe lane towers, allowing you to teleport from one edge to the other.

You can find Lotus Pools on the left and right sides of the map to gather a fruit that grants mana and HP. The fruit can be combined into a large one, and the developers say something will happen if you do this several times.

Tormentors, which spawn near each base after 20 minutes and provide Aghanim’s Shards, are equipped with megashields reflecting most of the damage. They also grow stronger every time you kill them. 

The map now has 12 new creep camps up for butchering.

Roshan now has two new pits in the northwest and southeast corners of the map, and the creature himself is "even tankier now". He doesn't drop Aghanim's Shards anymore and drops Cheese on his second death instead of third. His third death drops a Refresher Shard or a Scepter, depending on his location.

As for gameplay changes, Dota 2 introduces Universal heroes – "a new main stat group composed of existing heroes that now gain 0.6 damage from each stat, of any attribute." The Black King Bar has been reworked to apply a basic dispel and grant 50% Magic resistance and Debuff Immunity.

Finally, killing a neutral creep now randomly drops a token allowing you to choose from five available neutral items. 

Dota 2 now uses a new Glicko algorithm for matchmaking, which matches you with other players at a similar skill level quickly and accurately. It takes your Rank Confidence into account, which should help it make more accurate decisions about Rank gains and losses.
