New Open-Source Browser-Based 3D Gaussian Splat Editor

Will Eastcott launched SuperSplat, a free web tool for inspecting and editing 3D Gaussian Splats.

The study of 3D Gaussian Splatting, a rendering technique that takes samples of images and turns them into 3D scenes without creating meshes by converting a point cloud to Gaussians via machine learning, is steadily progressing.

Will Eastcott, creator of PlayCanvas, a real-time collaborative platform for WebGL and WebXR apps, has launched SuperSplat 1.0, an open-source editor for for working with 3D Gaussian Splats.

SuperSplat is free, built on web technologies, and runs in the browser, so there's nothing to download or install. It's designed to be user-friendly and supports drag-and-drop actions. Through the Scene Manager panel, you can easily hide splats, remove them from the scene, adjust their orientation, and select specific splats for editing.

This editor currently has the following limitations:

  • Only supports Gaussian splat PLY files
  • Spherical harmonic data is not rotated on export

Try the live version of SuperSplat here and visit its GitHub repository for additional information.
