New Update for Counter-Strike 2 Gives Chickens the Ability to Swim

It also adds two new maps, enhances interactions between objects and water, and improves the game's animations.

Valve continues working on Counter-Strike 2, the highly anticipated Source 2-powered edition of the iconic first-person shooter, first announced back in March. Ahead of its release, set to take place sometime this Summer, they revealed one more small update for the game.

The highlight and, without a doubt, the most significant addition to Counter-Strike 2 is the newfound ability of the game's iconic chickens to swim. According to the developers, it took a "long, extensive training session" to teach Counter-Strike's iconic birds how to properly navigate the water. A brief video shared by YouTube user Karma showcases the chickens' new swimming animations and gives us a look at CS2's impressive water.

As for the smaller and less noteworthy updates, the release adds two new maps – Ancient and Anubis – to Deathmatch and Casual game modes, adjusts grenade/water interaction sounds, improves head animation when crouching while running and foot animation when quickly alternating between standing still and moving, and enhances the interaction between weapons and water, resulting in guns now creating splashes when dropped in water.

Ancient and Anubis walkthroughs by Karma:

Notably, this is not the first update for Counter-Strike 2 that upgrades the game's chickens. Earlier, Valve also introduced a fun ability to roast chickens by throwing Molotov cocktails at them.

Back in July, Valve also shared an update for CS2, adding Overpass and Vertigo maps to Deathmatch and Casual game modes, bringing the Wingman game mode, fixing multiple bugs, and more.

The release of Overpass, which, much like its version in CS:GO, featured multiple puddles, allowed players with access to the closed beta to experience the game's improved water physics firsthand. According to the demos shared by said players, the water now behaves more realistically, replicating how it would flow and create ripples in the real world.

Despite the absence of an official announcement regarding the game's release date, the fans still have a certain date to look forward to. Earlier, players noticed an intriguing detail on the previously-mentioned Overpass map – all the clocks displaying the time 8:24. This led them to speculate that Valve might be hinting at a Counter-Strike 2 release on August 24th. Whether this theory is far-fetched or holds some truth will likely be clarified on the very date, 8/24.
