Newzoo: Game-Related Peripherals Popularity Has Grown Significantly

According to the recent report by Newzoo, the popularity of game-related peripherals has substantially increased over two years since 2019 with the peak in 2021.

The firm attributes the surge to the pandemic measures that caused growing gaming popularity. As reported by Newzoo, the number of active PC or console gamers reached 179 million in 2021 compared to 152.4 million in 2019.

The firm outlined that demand for PC-focused game peripherals has shown the most significant growth as the majority of companies switched to remote or hybrid work models meaning that employees worldwide continued to equip their home offices with computer mice, keyboards, and other peripherals.

Although the ownership of PC-related peripherals has enjoyed consistent growth, gaming controller and headset ownership saw a slight decrease from November 2019 to November 2020 starting to grow again in November 2021. As the firm explains, this dip is related to the launch of Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 as gamers were holding off the purchase of new peripherals prior to the launch of the new-gen consoles. Controller and headset sales then grew again as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has become more available throughout 2021.

The firm also noted that awareness among active console and PC players has increased throughout the years, and currently, users consider six different brands before buying any peripherals.
