Next Tales from the Borderlands Game is Coming This Year

Gearbox Software announced that the brand-new Tales from the Borderlands game is currently in development and will be released later this year.

Yesterday, at PAX East, Gearbox Software announced that the brand-new Tales from the Borderlands game is currently in development and will be released later this year. For the project, Gearbox is partnering with 2K Games.

The original Tales from the Borderlands was released in 2014 – 2015 and developed by Telltale Games, the studio that specialized in narrative adventure games like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. The game was critically acclaimed and praised by Borderland fans. When Telltale Games closed in 2018, the series was sold to the owner of the Borderlands franchise 2K Games.

"Because of the success and our love for Tales, and because of our interest in developing the Borderlands universe in new ways, we thought it would be fun and exciting to dive into the format of interactive fiction once again," said Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford during a presentation at PAX (via Gematsu).

Pitchford also noted that the sequel will feature new characters and it will be an "all-new game set within the Borderlands universe". Like the previous part, the next Tales from the Borderlands will be a narrative-focused graphic adventure game, although this time it will be developed in-house by Gearbox Software. So, apparently, the revived Telltale Games is not involved.

It seems that this year we will be hearing a lot of the Borderlands franchise. Recently, Borderlands' Tiny Tina got her spin-off game, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and soon the Borderlands movie is coming to the screens.
