It continues to dominate the games market.
A new report from Niko Partners sheds light on China's video games market. The country remains the largest video games market, with 47% of mobile games revenue and 39% of PC games revenue coming from there.
The report states (via IGN) that while China’s video games market had a revenue of $45.5 billion in 2022, it is expected to grow even more and earn $57 billion in revenue in 2027. The country will also have 730 million gamers by 2027.
Most gamers in China spend money on mobile games (66%). PC gamers account for 31%, while 3% of spenders are console gamers.
Tencent and NetEase led the domestic PC and mobile games revenue in 2022 with a combined 61% share.
Niko Partners expects that China will approve over 1,000 domestic games and 100 import games in 2023. Its report mentions 102 esports tournaments held in China in 2022, 51% of which were for mobile games, with Honor of Kings having the highest combined prize pool of $14.7 million. At the same time, Valorant will “significantly impact China’s esports market upon its launch later this year”.
