Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the successor to Nintendo Switch will have backwards compatibility.

Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature backwards compatibility. In a recent Twitter post, Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa shared that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Apart from this, Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch.
The announcement was made at Corporate Management Policy Briefing on November 6. Furukawa said that further information about the next Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with the previous model, would be announced at a later date.
Nintendo Switch 2 was showcased for the first time at Gamescom 2023. Its release was initially planned for this year, but the company reportedly delayed it until 2025. Later, the company's developers reportedly shared that they didn't expect the new console's launch this financial year and that they were even told not to expect the device to be released in this period.
