Nintendo Switch Became the Fourth Top-Selling Console in US History

Nintendo Switch outsold PlayStation 4 in the US becoming the fourth highest-selling console in US history, according to the latest report from The NPD Group. 

The NPD's data on games industry sales from April 2022 reveals that the Nintendo Switch led April in terms of unit sales. The figures show that Nintendo Switch's lifetime sales have surpassed Sony's PS4, which means it now takes the fourth position among the highest-selling consoles, following PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Nintendo's own Wii.

The Switch has also become the best-selling video game system of 2022 to date in the United States followed by Xbox Series X|S. Besides, if handheld consoles are counted, Switch is also the sixth-highest unit-selling video game hardware in the US.

In terms of dollar sales, PlayStation 5 was the leader in April, followed by Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Xbox Series, meanwhile, has generated the highest hardware dollar sales among all the platforms year-to-date, with PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch taking the second and the third spots respectively.

The report also reads that spending on games hardware in April grew by 16% in the US compared to the same period in 2021, with the analysts seeing that the main reason for that is the improved supply of PS5 and Xbox consoles.
